Elliott Sadler,
"I definitely have an ambition and the focus to try to make it in the NASCAR Winston Cup. It's something that has driven me for a long time. I've been racing a little over twenty years, I'm only twenty-eight years old, so this is really all I know. I've given up a lot of things in my life to try to get me to this point. Just in the past year when I stepped into the Robert Yates car, I knew that I was going to have the focus and the determination it takes to become a Winston Cup winner. Sometimes it hurts. You give up a lot of stuff in your personal life. I've done that to make sure I am a focused individual when it comes to Sunday, and that's what I try to do. As far as talent, I just try to use the talent that the great Lord has given me. I try to be hard on myself to make sure I keep walking the straight and narrow to hopefully become a NASCAR Winston Cup champion one day. That's my dream. I know other kids really want to do this part of racing. I know the odds are against me right now. I don't know if I'm ever going to do it, but definitely I'm going to try. I go to bed every night figuring out ways to make sure that happens." (Laughs) "I don't know... I don't think a switch ever cuts on. I just was lucky enough to race some late model stock cars in Southern Virginia where a few Busch series owners saw me and started talking to me. I guess that was one of the first phone calls I received, as far as driving a Busch car. A light kind of came on my head thinking…maybe you can do this for a living. I still remember the day. Benny Parson's son Keith Parsons at the time was working for Diamond Ridge Motor Sports and I thought it was a prank call. He called to ask me to drive their Busch car. Seemed like a light came on that day and I can do this for a living, and it's been a lot of fun since." Elliott Sadler has a niece born with Autism and is a fund raiser for Autism. We applaud all NASCAR and NHRA teams and drivers for their dedication to charitable causes. |
