Story and Photos © 2003 by Dwight Drum Mooreville, N.C. didn't start out as Race City USA, the town where many drivers lived evolved and grew with NASCAR popularity. The once quiet town with a railroad depot for cotton has flourished in textiles and racing. Textiles are still a big part of Mooresville, but race cars and engines have given the area a national presence. Race City USA now offers a detailed color-coded map of the locations of racing garages by the numbers. Fans can find their favorite driver by looking for a car number on the map. |
