Busch Series T-Shirt with a Harvick History

What do you do with a gift from mom when you can't wear it even though it's the right size? Toss it in your closet and don't wear it was the obvious first move, but as months roll by do you dust it off, wear it anyway or give it away? An x-large white t-shirt doesn't consume much closet space so any decision can be postponed, but if the t-shirt has a motorsports memorabilia significance passing months actually add up to value. As dust settles, value sometimes rises.

A t-shirt not paying rent is hardly a pressing dilemma, but when the modest garb has a 2000 Busch Series Kevin Harvick Rookie-of-the-Year design on the front and back with a Chevrolet AC Delco No.2 car front and back then its presence is stimulating. Harvick's subsequent climb in NASCAR and his 2006 Busch Series championship win fueled the worth of the shirt.

A shirt with a story:

For many years mom, Arbutus Drum, bought clothing from an outlet mail order center in the hometown Warren, Pa. as Christmas gifts. For her NASCAR media son she buys anything related to racing, not understanding that because Zoomster.com can't take sides nobody in the organization can wear a shirt promoting any specific driver. When she purchased a Kevin Harvick 2000 Rookie-of-the-year t-shirt about four years ago she had no clue of the significance of that shirt other than it was NASCAR.

The shirt has sat untouched in a closet because the owner wasn't sure what to do with it. The same closet was home for a decade to a Richard Petty "Ride of a Lifetime" ESPN poster given as a souvenir by a cable network clerk prior to the motorsports Zoomster venture. That poster was donated to Kyle Petty for the Victory Junction Gang Camp in 2005.

When Kevin Harvick was scheduled to be at Disney World for the NASCAR Busch Series champion week and Zoomster.com was approved to be on-site, donation seemed the best use for the t-shirt. If Kevin signed that shirt someone might pay a generous price in a charity auction. Zoomster.com chose The NASCAR Foundation as the best destination for a shirt that had a uncertain purpose.

With the help of NASCAR Busch Series Public Relations, Harvick's press agent and Kevin's swift hand with a felt-tip pen the neglected t-shirt now has a renewed function. The signed t-shirt was immediately turned over to NASCAR PR for forwarding to The NASCAR Foundation.

Zoomster.com urges others to donate resources, memorabilia or funds, to The NASCAR Foundation.
