"I'm an old fashioned road warrior."

Don Radebaugh
PR/Media Director
ARCA RE/MAX Series

Zoomster.com has been fortunate to be covering the ARCA RE/MAX Series for five top seasons now and at the helm of their media efforts and more is the multi-talented, Don Radebaugh. As stock car racing has gained in popularity via NASCAR's promotional and organizational skills so too has ARCA gained ground in the shadow of the new media giant. Many NASCAR drivers train on the short tracks, dirt tracks, road courses, ovals and super speedways that host ARCA events.

Still, in the ranks of ARCA, one senses the fun and sport of racing like a cozy neighborhood that grew better beside more affluent streets. Radebaugh orchestrates a good share of that racing reality via his Web work, his telecasting and writing skills for the series. Zoomster.com caught up to the busy media director in the garage at Daytona International Speedway.

Dwight asked Don Radebaugh:

What do you like best about your job?

"I don't know that I could pick out one best thing. There are so many elements to this job that I absolutely love. I get to do so many different things from announcing which I love to do. And I get to do a lot of writing. I get to manage the Web site. I get to meet a lot of really cool people. I get to around a lot of successful people. There are just too many things about this job that I love. I can't choose any one thing."

This year the reduced testing dates for NASCAR NEXTEL Cup could create more teams in ARCA to test on tracks they can't test on now. Can you comment on that?

"I think that's true. I think we will see more NASCAR teams in the ARCA RE/MAX Series testing. This has always been though even before this year. The ARCA RE/MAX Series has always been a proving ground for drivers and equipment so nothing new there. But the fact that NASCAR has limited the test sessions on that side of the world will even pull more people this way."

How do you deal with the travel of your job? That's one of those things that everybody has to deal with about this job.

"I'm an old fashioned road warrior. I love to travel. So this actually fits right in to who I am and what I'm all about. I think I'm a little nomadic. I do love to be home. I love the feeling of being home, but I've got a nomadic element to who I am. An you know in comparison to NASCAR racing 36, 37, 38 times a year the ARCA RE/MAX Series runs only 23 times a year. So it's not so bad. And again, I'm going to go back to the fact that I love my job which helps it along even more."

The ARCA teams are a dedicated group of people. A lot of them have other jobs just to do what they are able to do. Can you comment on that family atmosphere in the ARCA RE/MAX Series?

"There are second and third generations here. ARCA has been around since 1953, so we're on our third generation in many cases. So I really do think we have a family atmosphere here. You look at the Venturini's, the Bowshers, and right on down the line, the tradition continues."
