NASCAR Winston Cup Teleconference Moments Rusty Wallace, driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Intrepid Photo courtesy of NASCAR Winston Cup Series. "That was pretty strong that day." A Zoomster question from Dwight: "Oh man. One of my favorite moments I guess. I've got a lot of em, a lot of good ones, but one that keeps sticking out in my mind. It was Michigan and I don't know the year, but I remember what happened."
"They paved the race track and the track was tearing up real bad in turn three and four. I was leading the race all day long and ran out of gas and came down pit road. It was a short period of time left in the race. "Buddy Parrott was leaning over the car squirting ether down the carburetor, trying to get the motor fired up. When it refired, I drove down pit road and he tumbled down pit road. Crew guys ran out, stood him up and dusted him off. I had 12 laps to go and went back in the race in 12th place. I passed one and two cars every single lap and I finally got myself up to the white flag. When I came across the white flag, I pulled into second place behind Dale Earnhardt. He was leading the race. "I went down into turn three on Earnhardt's bumper. He slid up the race track and I went under him and won the race. That was the most dramatic finish I've ever had in my entire life…Out of gas with my crew chief tumbling down pit road, passing one and two cars a lap, and passing the best driver out there, Earnhardt was on the last lap off turn four and winning the race. That was pretty strong that day. |
