We understand the Hooters approach to racing. It's promotional and exciting. Sponsorship in stock car racing these days almost have to have big reasons and big pockets. The United Speed Alliance Racing Hooters Pro Cup series is supported by the Hooters organization and other sponsors with proper payout and prime coverage. They bring a TV eye, the Speed channel, to their races and they bring their support groups including many Hooters girls to beautify and promote the racing environment. Mostly it's just fun. Drivers of all ages and stages in their racing careers vie for the checkered flag in USAR. Some have raced in the NASCAR Busch series and Craftsman Truck series, some aspire to race to the top. Zoomster.com attended a Hooters Pro Cup event at USA International Speedway in Lakeland. Dwight Drum interviewed several drivers- some young, some not-so-young and some older. That mix fits the slogan, where racing's past, present and future collide.
Our next interview is with a young son of a NASCAR great driver Jimmy Spencer Jr. "The oval stuff is fun, side by side, beating and banging." Dwight asked Jimmy Spencer Jr. "I'm not only part owner, I'm also racing in the Northern Hooters Cup series. Jason Sarvis is kind of like my teacher in a way. He runs the South and I run the North. I'm going top run Myrtle Beach and Hickory. We've got us a good group of guys from Five Off and Five On to pit the car and they give more than just that. We got it all together. We ran good every where. Jason was dominating in Nashville. He had the fastest car and the way he would just pass people. He's one heck of a driver. I love watching him on the track. He has taught me so much. I finished twelfth last race and it's all because of him, the way he taught me how to get in the corners, the way he takes time to explain things to me to make sure I understand. He's a really good driver. I like being around him. He's a good worker too." "I am. I'm going to take a different route. I'm hoping to make it to Nextel Cup series and actually my ultimate goal is to race in the World Rally Championship. I don't think there are any American drivers there and I'd like to be the first one to win one of those. That's more my kind of style. I like going out on the streets and back roads taking my dad's Corvette or my mom's Mercedes and going to have fun. It's more for me. I'm more of a road course guy. I like hanging out with Robbie Gordon and just doing things with him. He took me shifter cart racing once and I love it. "
"The oval stuff is fun, side by side, beating and banging, but when it all comes down to it, the world's greatest drivers are the World Rally Champions. They race on everything from snow to sun to rain and they have no walls. They screw up they're going off a cliff. We screw up we just hit the wall. I really think one day I could get there, but right now I'm just going to take my time in the Hooters Cup series and get as much experience as I can and hopefully get this No. 36 Bill Miller Chevrolet to victory lane. |
