"If things go the other way, I'm a hero. If they don't, I'm a zero."

A Zoomster question from Dwight:

Your calls are a big part of your job. Are there still moments during a NASCAR Winston Cup race when you learn from your calls?

"Every week. I'm not second guessing myself because I'm not going to get started in that. The face of racing has changed a lot. I think everyone will agree, the last six or eight races have been a totally different approach as far as how do you go about winning those races."

"It takes a lot of flexibility in making those calls. I've made some calls that were probably exactly not the call to make in retrospect. Going 180 degrees in the opposite direction would probably have been the way to go, but that's easy to say after the fact. I wasn't leading the race when I made those calls either. I'm talking about some of the calls that didn't pan out. I would probably make those calls again although that may not sit well with Rusty.

"If things go the other way, I'm a hero, if they don't I'm a zero. So far I've been a zero more times than not, but we're still battling to get a win here. The day comes when we're leading a race, I can make those calls as far as dictating to everyone else what we're going to do, then things might be different.
