"I like the people."

Zoomster questions from Debbie:

Can you tell us what part of your job as crew chief is most important?

"I think the biggest part is trying to keep harmony among everybody. Everybody is on the road so much, and everybody more or less has to live together. I try to keep the harmony where everybody gets along good and that keeps the atmosphere good around the racetrack. I think that means a lot to your success. If everybody is not on the same page or pulling apart, I think that really hurts the race team. That's all I've been doing all my life. I've been doing it for 21 years. I don't know any other way of doing it. "

What do you like best about your job?

I like the people. I don't like the travel as much as I used to, but I like the people."

Many of the behind the scene needs of racing are unknown to fans. What would you most want fans to know about the difficult part of your job?

"Probably the most difficult part of my job now is being gone so much. The kids are growing up and I don't get to see them much. The biggest thing I need to do is keep harmony in the team. As long as everybody is getting along I'm usually pretty happy.”

What would you want fans to know about the good parts of your job that often goes unnoticed?

“The good part of my job is meeting new people all the time. NASCAR is just a big family, so it's fun to travel and meet new people.”
